Primary emphasis is on EB-66 Electronic CounterMeasures (ECM) and E/RB-66
missions conducted over North Vietnam in the "invisible war" that was fought
during the Southeast Asia conflict from 1965 to early 1974. Major Vietnam War U.S. bombing
campaigns supported by EB-66 units included:
Rolling Thunder and  Linebacker.

Historians have described the North Vietnam air defense environment as the most sophisticated
enemy defense system the United States has ever flown against.
The major threats to U.S. aircrews
was a combination of
Soviet anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) systems, airborne intercept (AI) fighter
aircraft MIG- 17s and MIG-21s, and SA-2, surface-to-air missiles (SAM) systems.

This website contains over 1,400 names, photos and interesting
anecdotes about E/R/B-66 operations and associated activities.

For example:

 On 25 February 1966, a surface-to-air missile (SAM) struck and crippled RB-66C
serial 54-0457
'Gull One' . The engagement occurred 10-miles northwest of Vihn,
North Vietnam, while heading 270 degrees at 28,000 feet. A 11-page article written
by Norman Malayney was published in American Aviation Historical Society Journal.

LtCol Gene Hambleton ( BAT 21Bravo ) was the navigator and lone survivor of
an EB-66C shot down by a North Vietnamese SA-2 surface to air missile (SAM).
His 12-day rescue was one of the most bizarre rescues of the Vietnam War.
A movie has been made and a book has been written about this daring rescue.

The EB-66C (Newark 01) pilot’s description of a dogfight between
two F-4Cs and three MIGs that saved an EB-66 aircraft and its crew.
